Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez joined the Mike Heller Show on Wednesday and talked about the new NCAA targeting rule, open scrimmages at Camp Randall and Wisconsin scheduling tough opponents.
on targeting rule: I like the intent of the rule to protect the players. Those hits in the past were celebrated...so I think it's good, it will put a strong awareness on the athletes. I hope it doesn't put too much pressure on the officials when to call it because an ejection is pretty serious.
on open scrimmages: Gary didn't ask me about it. I respect what he believes in and what he's all about it. I like the fact we had a scrimmage the other day and there was a reaction from the crowd...
on Badgers' tough future schedules: We had an opportunity to play those games on a neutral site. I thought it would be huge for our program. Gary doesn't shy away from competition...I just thought we had to do it.
