UW Athletic Director, Barry Alvarez, joined Lucas and Lepay this morning to talk about Gary Andersen, the success of his former players, coaches, and employees, and changes fan should expect this upcoming year.
Alvarez on Pollard, Eichorst, and Frazier becoming Athletic Directors:
I think each of them have their own strengths. Each of them have gone about their business a little different way. I think all three of them are very bright and all of them are really professional and committed to the business. All of them were involved in national committees and were really aware of what’s going on nationally and what’s going on in our business and I think people are aware of that.
Alvarez on interviewing former player, Mel Tucker, for the head coaching position:
I was very proud of him. I told the guys when we were going down to meet him, I said, “You’re going to be impressed with him. Mel’s sharp. He’ll be prepared.” It was fun to
hear him talk about what Wisconsin meant to him, what the program was all about; he understood. That’s the fun part. You know you come in here and build a program and you want it to stand for something and one of your former players can cite it back to you, front page to back page.
Alvarez on how Gary Andersen will handle B1G Media Days:
Gary has handled himself very well anytime we we put him in front of anyone. The thing I’ve noticed about Gary is that he’s very sincere; he’s not trying to impress anyone. He’s just going to be very honest and straightforward. He’ll continue to do that and be very confident about it.
