The Packers picking up free agent running back Steven Jackson makes sense as long as it does not hamper their ability to resign Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews, and B.J. Raji.
The Packers have not expended any effort so far in trying to make this deal happen, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. Head Coach Mike McCarthy can utilize a great running back, but we haven't seen him do it recently because nobody would confuse Ryan Grant with being great. The Packers haven't had an upscale running back since Ahman Green.
The fact that Ted Thompson is considering bringing in Jackson is great news for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the wide receiving corp.
