NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth joined the show on Monday to talk about his victory at Las Vegas this past weekend.
Near the end of the race, Kenseth made a fuel only pit stop. What’s the decision process like between him and his crew chief Jason Ratcliff? “It’s 100% his call. I really believe in him, the guys believe in him. He’s got a plan, so that was all his decision.”
How significant is a car switch? “Well I don’t know just about the car and the hardware. The manufacturers are really behind the teams as far as engineering support, all kinds of different technology stuff, obviously they build the engines.”
Kenseth has had a lot of success in Las Vegas, and he said he isn’t really sure why exactly he has done so well there. “All three Joe Gibbs racing cars are fast, I think Kyle (Bush) hands down had the fastest car in practice. Denny (Hamlin) I thought had a top five car as well.”
“Man I can’t wait; I wish we were going tomorrow. I love Bristol; I have always loved racing there. We have done okay there in the past; I’m looking forward to going with Jason and this group and getting to work on Friday.”
Has Danica Patrick’s publicity been good for the sport? Kenseth said, “Um, I don’t know. I really don’t. Certainly she gets the spotlight. Watching Nationwide races the last couple years and stuff like that certainly there’s a lot more camera time no matter where she’s running or what she’s doing. There has to be a reason for that. It’s probably bringing new people in the sport.”
