Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Marco Estrada joined us Thursday to talk Brewers in lieu of the Brewers on Deck fan forum and upcoming 2013 season.
Estrada will join 13 other members of the Brewers organization in the World Baseball Classic this March. He will be pitching alongside fellow Brewer starter Yovani Gallardo as they represent their home country of Mexico. Estrada said he has "waited a long time to be a part of this" after missing the 2009 roster and is excited for the opportunity represent Mexico and "just have a good time playing in the Classic."
Estrada talked about his journey to the majors and calls being picked up by the Brewers in 2010 "the best thing that has happened" to him to this day. He credits the Brewers for giving him "every opportunity possible" and is trying to make the best of it by continuing to work hard.
On the new young pitching staff, Estrada thinks "it sounds pretty funny" to be thought of as a veteran. When Estrada was starting out in the majors, he was "pretty nervous" and is impressed with the young staff's level of comfort. "They're acting like they've been there for awhile... they've got good heads on their shoulders".
So how can we keep up with Marco Estrada? "I actually have never been on twitter. I don't have a facebook... I'm just a regular guy." He did add, however, that is Brewers PR asked him to, he "might jump on."
