Adam Rygg of The Brewer Nation joined the show on Wednesday to discuss all things Brewers.

Rygg discussed the Brewers rotation, and feels that Chris Narveson, barring an awful spring training, will be in the starting rotation.  “I am in the mindset of having a lefty in the lineup is a good idea.  Narveson has proven that he is a capable back end starter.”

That means that there are two spots left in the rotation, with three pitchers fighting for the spots; Mike Fiers, Wily Peralta, and Mark Rogers.  Rygg said he has no idea which two will get those spots.  “I think it is a complete crapshoot.  I think Fiers has the leg up on the other two just because of how long he did what he did last year.”  Mark Rogers is out of minor league options last year, and Rygg said this presents issues for the Brewers.  “They are not going to expose him to waivers.”

Is Yovani Gallardo an elite pitcher?  “He certainly could be, but he needs to cut down in his walks.  He attacks the strike zone sometimes, but he needs to get more consistent in the way he pitches to hitters.”  Rygg said that Gallardo has been a very consistent pitcher throughout the years, and now that he is getting into his prime, Rygg feels this is Gallardo’s chance to get into the category of elite pitcher.
First base is a big question mark for the Brewers with Corey Hart missing the first weeks of the season, and Gamel lost for the year.  Rygg said, “If they go with Hunter Morris, then he will be the guy.  He has become very good defensively the last couple of years.  He won the gold glove at the AA level last year.”  Rygg did say that the tradition of the Brewers is to take a guy throughout all the levels before they bring a guy up to the majors.  If they don’t go with Morris, then Rygg could see a platoon with Taylor Green and Alex Gonzalez.
