Ben Worgull of Badger Nation joined the Mike Heller Show on Wednesday to talk about Badger football recruits, and the future of the Badger basketball team.

The Badger football team got a big reaffirmation from Brookfield East Defensive end Alec James.  Florida State, Michigan State, and Arkansas all reached out to James, but Worgull said it was really between Wisconsin and Oregon.  “When it came down to it, he just really meshed well with the new coaching staff.”  Worgull said on film you can see that he really plays well in the 3-4 type scheme.  “To get a kid like to him to stay in state, and to really be a natural fit to where your defense is going, that’s huge for Wisconsin.”

A rival of James from high school and another defensive end the Badgers have coming in is Brookfield’s Defensive End Chikwe Obasih.  “The direction Wisconsin is going to go now; it seems they are going to put more pressure, and more outside containment.  You have really seen Chikwe from where he was at the end of his junior year to where he is now; he’s a better technical football player.  When you combined just the intelligence with his speed, he could be a very useful weapon in the pass rush game.”’

Worgull also discussed the Badger basketball team’s recruiting situation.  “Well you look at the next two recruiting classes, there is no one over 6’9.  The 2014 recruiting class only has one scholarship.  But (Badger Assistant Coach) Greg Gard has said before and he will say it again, post players are the hardest to develop making the jump from high school to college.”
