Badger assistant coach Greg Gard joined the show on Thursday to preview the Badgers’ game at Minnesota tonight.
Minnesota is a team that is struggling lately losing six of their eight last games, but Gard says he isn’t sure if desperate is the right word to use to describe them, and that coaches can twist an opponent’s record to keep their team focused. “When you look at an opponent, they are either coming off a win and you’re saying man they are playing well, or they’re coming off a loss and you say man they are going to be desperate.”
Gard said the Badgers focus is winning the Big Ten Title. “Until we get mathematically eliminated, that’s always the number one thing.” Gard also mentioned that playing well in the Big Ten gets a team prepared for what they are going to face in the Big Ten tournament.
As for the fatigue the Badgers are feeling at this point in the season, Gard says he thinks the team is good to go. “Having Sunday and Monday off to kind of regroup and get our legs back, I’m not worried about (playing all of these games because) these guys know it’s a dog fight.”
Gard and the Badgers are focused on Minnesota, but he says he will never forget that half-court shot Ben Brust made against Michigan last Saturday. “That’s typically a once of in a life time shot that you personally get to witness.”
