I think the Packers have had a very good off-season. I like what ted Thompson did with internal Free Agency. He kept the players they needed to keep. Sam Shields, Mike Neal, BJ Raji, John Starks, John Kuhn, Andrew Quarless, and Matt Flynn all re-signed. That’s good. Surprisingly, the Packers made a BIG SPLASH in Free Agency when they signed Julius Peppers. I would give the off-season at B+ grade…so far.
Now it’s time for the Draft.
I have only one “want” tonight…with a “sub-want” and I have one absolute disappointment possibility.
Want: I want Ted Thompson to submit a pick at #21 that is a Defensive Player
Sub-Want: I want the players name to be either Ryan Shazier (don’t think he’ll be available) …or… CJ Mosley. Immediate impact…speed and physicality. Add either of these players to a Defense that includes Peppers, Matthews, Neal, Williams, and Shields…and the Packers are a Super Bowl threat.
Disappointment: If with the 21st pick of the 1st round… the Packers select an offensive player, I will be very, very disappointed. End of discussion.
Two other thoughts before I make my “prediction.” First, if Mosley and Shazier are not available at #21, I would expect Thompson to trade down and gather more middle round selections in return. Second, I don’t expect Thompson to select a Safety tonight. Calvin Pryor and HaHa Clinton-Dix are NOT good enough.
My predicted pick is in. With the 21st pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select … … … CJ Mosely, Linebacker, Alabama. The road to the Super Bowl begins.
