Ater safety Reggie Mitchell announced he was leaving the Badger football program, junior college transfer Donnell Vercher announced he is not going to be a Badger. Badger coach Gary Anderson stopped by Lucas and Lepay Wednesday morning to talk about the saftey position situation along with other pre-season preparations the Badgers are making.
On practice between Quarteracks and Wide Receivers:
It has to happen everyday. There are going to be times where they'll be going up against the defense and doing what they do, but every single day we have to throw the ball and catch the ball. For the receivers to say they are catching the ball from our quarterbacks is not enough. They have to take the extra time. If they really want to take the steps they want to and talk about, they have to spend that extra time. It will also help Melvin and James have special seasons if we can do throw the ball I think.
On safety situation:
I think we're okay. I feel good about it. We'll move a few pieces to the puzzle. The bottom line though is that kids got to do things and react to things that the University of Wisconsin expects them to. If they don't want to be here and they don't like the scenario they're in, then they aren't progressing in life. But we'll move on. Dezmen is the foundation of that safety group and will continue to be and we will continue to build some young men there.
